Clark County officials are warning people near the growing Nakia Creek wildfire northeast of Camas to evacuate or prepare to leave their homes, and schools in Washougal will close Monday to allow families to move to safety.
About 1,000 homes are under evacuation, including Level 3 (go now) orders Sunday. That’s compared with about 100 households under Level 1 (be ready) orders Tuesday, two days after the blaze ignited for unknown reasons.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said the fire now covers 400 acres and is “aggressively” moving west and southwest.
Residents may track information about the fire on the website of the Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency.
Plumes of smoke billowed over Camas on Sunday, about 9 miles from the center of the fire. Smoke contributed to poor air quality in the Portland area.
Mt. Pleasant School in the Gorge will also close Monday.
